Spike is a tan-and-white Chihuahua mix with a heart that runs bigger than his 12-pound frame. Gentle, resilient, and easy to love — he’s the kind of dog who quietly wins you over.
His Story
Spike and Opie came to DARE together in 2021, pulled from Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services. DARE made them both a promise: they’d be safe, loved, and cared for for the rest of their lives. His friend Opie crossed the Rainbow Bridge in June 2026 — but Spike is still here, still held close by his foster family, still living exactly the life DARE promised him.
What Makes Him Happy
Snuggles. Sunny naps. The simple stuff. At 16, Spike has some age-related vision loss, but it hasn’t slowed him down much — he knows his home, and he knows he’s loved.
