Phoebe

Phoebe doesn’t trust easily. At 15, she’s earned the right not to.

She’s a gentle soul who moves through the world on her own terms — slowly, carefully, and
always paying attention. When she first came to DARE, she did what she does best: she
watched. She hid. She waited to see if the people around her were worth the risk. Weeks
passed. Then one day, she started following her foster mom from room to room. That’s
Phoebe. Not loud about her feelings, but unmistakably clear about them once she decides
you’ve made the cut.

Her Story

Phoebe came to DARE needing a patient, experienced home — ideally one or two older women,
no men, no chaos. Her foster family gave her exactly that, including the time and space
she needed to build real confidence. She made remarkable progress. And then she did what
Phoebe does: she settled in and made it clear she was exactly where she belonged. DARE
agreed. Phoebe is a forever foster — she’s not going anywhere, and neither is the love
she’s found here.

What Makes Her Happy

A cozy bed. Her foster grandma nearby. The backyard at her own unhurried pace. Phoebe is a
dog who has figured out what a good day looks like, and she appreciates every one of
them. Once she trusts you, she’s genuinely affectionate — a gentle presence who’ll stay
close and let you know, quietly, that she’s glad you’re there.

A Few Things to Know

  • Men make her nervous. Phoebe is not comfortable around men and can react strongly. Her
forever home manages this carefully, and she’s doing well.
  • She has a voice. Phoebe likes to use it. Her foster mom has worked with her on this, and
she’s learned to settle down after a reminder or two.
