DARE to Rescue is a 100% volunteer-run dachshund rescue based in Florida. Since 2003, we’ve helped over 3,000 dachshunds find loving homes. Every dog in our program is foster-raised — meaning you get a dog that’s been evaluated, loved, and prepared for life in a home.

Minimum Requirements

Before applying, make sure you meet our adoption requirements:

• Applicants must be 21 years or older
• All pets currently in your home must be spayed or neutered (rare exceptions with veterinary documentation)
• All pets must be current on vaccinations and heartworm prevention (rare exceptions considered)

The Adoption Process

STEP 1: Find Your Dog & Apply

Browse our available dachshunds andfind one that’s a good fit for your home and lifestyle. When you’re ready, submit an application for that specific dog.

The application will ask about:

• Who lives in your home
• Your living environment
• Past and current pets
• What you’re looking for in a dog

STEP 2: Reference Checks

Once we receive your application, a DARE volunteer will be assigned to guide you through the process. They’ll reach out to your personal and veterinary references and are available to answer any questions along the way.

STEP 3: Home Visit

Your DARE representative will schedule an in-home visit to make sure the environment is a safe fit for your new dog. If you’re located outside our normal coverage area, we may partner with a local rescue group to assist.

STEP 4: Approval

Once your references and home visit are complete, you’ll be approved to adopt.

The dachshund you adopt will become a member of your family. Everyone in your residence must understand a rescue will need the love, patience, and guidance of every member of the family.

ADOPTION FEES

Puppy Purebred Dachshund or Dachshund Mix (Under 1 year old): $350

Purebred Dachshunds (1 through 9 years old): $300

Dachshund Mixes (1 through 9 years old): $200

Senior Purebred Dachshunds or Dachshund Mixes (10 years or older): $150

A NOTE ABOUT LONG-DISTANCE ADOPTIONS

We adopt throughout Florida. If you’re adopting from outside the area, you are responsible for traveling to Florida to complete the adoption in person. We do not ship dogs or arrange out-of-state transport.
