Spike & Opie

Opie and Spike are a bonded pair of senior gentlemen who came to DARE in 2021 after being rescued from Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services. Life at the shelter was overwhelming for them, but together they found comfort in one another.
Spike, a charming tan-and-white Chihuahua, is now around 16 years old and under 12 pounds. Though he has lost much of his vision, Spike gets around just fine and continues to show his resilient, gentle spirit. Opie, his handsome red-and-black best friend, is about 15 years old. When he first arrived, Opie was extremely frightened of everything and still prefers not to be picked up, but with time and patience, his loyal heart and sweet nature have begun to shine through.
These two old friends spend their days in peace and quiet, enjoying naps, companionship, and the love of their foster family. They are inseparable, finding strength and comfort in each other as they live out their golden years. As Forever Fosters, Opie and Spike are guaranteed the safety, care, and affection they deserve for the rest of their lives—together, just as it should be.
