Summer

Summer, a sweet and spunky 14-year-old wirehaired dachshund, has faced her share of challenges but remains a cherished member of the DARE Forever Foster family. Weighing just 9 pounds, Summer underwent IVDD back surgery in December 2024 and has made a remarkable recovery. Though she’s a little wobbly on her rear legs, she’s pain-free and has regained her zest for life—on her good days, she eagerly barks for her meals and delights in being pampered.

However, Summer has ongoing health concerns that make her a permanent foster. She experiences periodic episodes of discomfort, during which she retreats to her crate and refuses food or water. Despite extensive veterinary care, including tests and x-rays, the underlying cause remains a mystery. Her foster mom is dedicated to providing her with love, comfort, and the best care possible as they continue to monitor her health.

Summer’s journey may not have all the answers, but she is surrounded by compassion and affection in her forever home, ensuring her golden years are filled with warmth and security. ❤️
